There is no sitcom character like George Costanza. A lover of schemes, a worrier, and a guy who sometimes has high self-esteem and sometimes is super insecure, he's a unique character who has made audiences laugh since Seinfeld premiered in the late '80s.
Jason Alexander became just as famous as his character and learned that he was portraying Larry David on the show. He has continued acting since Seinfeld ended, but it's fair to say that he will always be remembered for playing George.

The Hairpiece
Danny Devitto said no to playing George, and while he's a very talented actor, many fans will always associate Jason Alexander with George Costanza and it's hard to picture someone else hanging out with Jerry, Elaine, and Kramer.
When fans noticed that Jason Alexander had hair, he explained what was going on via Twitter, according to Celebrity.nine.com.au.
It turns out that Alexander wanted to wear a hairpiece.
He tweeted, "What you see on my head is a really good, semi-permanent hairpiece. So yes, I'm still bald and yes, just like others in my profession who have to either wear make-up or dye their hair or undergo surgery, I now do a little something. It's honestly no big deal for me and hope it's not for you either."
Alexander also said, "Also, there was a practical element — onstage and even to a degree on film, my head had become a big beacon, reflecting light in a very obvious and distracting way." It's really interesting to hear about this, as fans love watching him as George so much and are used to George not having hair.
With his trademark sense of humor, Alexander ended his post on Twitter, "Thus endeth the hair mystery and hopefully answers the questions of those who were curious."

When he appeared on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson in 2014, he talked about his hairpiece. He showed his sense of humor about himself again here, explaining, "I travel with this occasionally. I do a stand-up comedy, a show called 'Jason Alexander ... An Evening With Jason Alexander and His Hair.' And, so, the hair has billing and an agent, and I had to wear it on your show," according to Yahoo Movies.
According to PR Web, Jason Alexander began losing his hair when he was only 17 years old. He realized that it would work for him to have a hairpiece because then he could still portray some characters who didn't have hair. He worked with Farrell Hair Replacement.

Playing George
Of course, Jason Alexander is still asked all the time about playing George on Seinfeld, which makes sense since this character and show is still so meaningful for fans.
When asked how George would act during the COVID-19 pandemic, Alexander had some ideas. He told Us Weekly that George must have been able to leave jail and that based on the reunion on Curb Your Enthusiasm, George got rich from his iToliet app and then Bernie Madoff made him poor. He said that George must have been living with his parents again and staying in his bedroom, ordering food on an app.
Alexander also gave a podcast interview and chatted about why the show said goodbye after 9 seasons.
According to ET Canada, he went on the “At Home with The Creative Coalition” podcast in September 2020 and said it seemed like it wasn't possible to keep putting out new and unique storylines because the fans were so familiar with Jerry and his friends. He said, "There was nothing new we could do to these characters and still have it be ‘Seinfeld’…"
Alexander also said, "The reason I think we did it — Jerry [Seinfeld] may have had other reasons like burnout and wanting to have a life — but the reason we discussed at the time was we all thought that the show could continue to be funny because the writers were always really good and they would find these amazing guest people to come in all the time. So there was a constant flow of a new sense of humor."

When he explained his hairpiece on Twitter, Jason Alexander also said that he could have made one of three decisions: get hair in some way, shave his head, or live with hair loss. He knew that getting a custom hairpiece was the best way to go, and fans are happy that he has found a solution that he feels comfortable with.
