If there’s one rapper that’s constantly brought up in the Smith household, it would be the late Tupac Shakur. "The All Eyes On Me" rapper died after suffering from gunshot wounds in a 1996 Las Vegas drive-by shooting, leaving not just his fans in complete shock, but also his family and friends.

Jada Pinkett-Smith has been pretty open about her former close ties to one of the biggest rappers of the ‘90s, who she first met while they were both in their teens studying at the Baltimore School of the Arts. Years later and both Jada and Tupac would become household names thanks to their respective Hollywood careers.

Prior to his death, the Red Table Talk host once revealed she had a quarrel with the Grammy winner which led to the pair not speaking for quite a long time. The fallout remains one of her biggest regrets since she wasn’t that close to Pac around the time he died.

Jada has often described Pac as one of her dearest friends, and the continuous act of bringing his name up has definitely left an impression on her singer-songwriter daughter, Willow Smith, who at the age of 11 penned a heartfelt letter wishing Pac to come back and make her mother happy again. Here’s the lowdown…

Willow’s Letter To Tupac

In 2012, just two years after her breakout hit “Whip My Hair” stormed the charts worldwide, Willow wrote and posted a letter online, where she asked begged Tupac to come home in the hopes that mommy will be happy again.

An 11-year-old writing such a thoughtful letter is interesting, to say the least. One does wonder what Willow must have heard or seen in her teens to have felt strongly enough in wanting to write a note in such manner, it would make you think he was still alive.

Surely she knew he had passed, so who was she going to pass the letter to after writing it? Well, she shared it with her fans on social media — before taking it down — and that seemed like more than enough information on what was going on.

Clearly, Jada had not been happy in a long time; she must have also brought up Tupac’s name a lot during Willow’s childhood.

The letter read, "Dear Tupac, I know you are alive someplace. I think that my mommy misses you. Can you come back so mommy and me can be happy! I wish you were here… I really do! Love, Willow.”

Over the years, many have speculated whether or not Jada’s relationship with Tupac was more than an innocent friendship.

While it’s not unusual to meet someone who has an impact on your life the way that Tupac had on Jada, people have found it hard to believe that the Matrix star, who was famously outed for having shared an entanglement with R&B singer August Alsina, was simply close pals with the rapper.

One also has to consider the type of things Tupac was singing about, all while taking into account that Jada wasn’t the sweet and innocent woman she may portray herself to be today. From drug abuse to her partying every Thursday to Monday, as revealed on her Red Table Talk show, she was certainly experimenting with life.

But in a 2015 interview with Howard Stern, Jada doubled down on her previous comments on insisting that there was never anything romantic going on between her and Tupac — they apparently didn’t share a sexual attraction to one another.

"When you have two young people that have very strong feelings, but there was no physical chemistry between us at all, and it wasn’t even just for me. It was him too.

"There was a time when I was like, 'Just kiss me! Let’s just see how this goes'. And when I tell you it had to be the most disgusting kiss for us both. The only way I can put it is, the higher power just did not want that.”

She also touched on her time with him at the art school in Baltimore, adding that she instantly hit it off with Tupac (in a friendly way) because the latter’s way of talking just made her want to know more about him.

“Once you paid attention to him he kind of sucked you in. And we hit it off from that moment on… I don’t think either one of us thought we would have made it in the way that we did, but we knew we were gonna do something.”

She finished by saying: ”[Shakur] was one of my best friends, he was like a brother.”
