There's a lot of interest in just how much money Howard Stern makes. Anyone who knows anything about Howard is aware that's exceptionally rich but doesn't really flaunt it in anyone's face. There's even a lot of talk about the possibility of the radio legend being a secret billionaire. In reality, he's a multi-multi-millionaire but hasn't quite reached the billionaire status. However, if he gets a few more $500 million contract renewals from SiriusXM he may be on his way to getting in the highest tax bracket.

However, that $500 million (for five years) doesn't just go to the face of The Howard Stern Show. It gets spread throughout the entire operation. That means production costs as well as employing his loyal group of mostly well-paid staffers. Among them is on-air personality, writer, and phony-phone caller, Sal 'The Stokebroker' Governale.

How Much Does Sal Governale Make Per Year?

There's very minimal information out there as to what each of the Stern Show staffers actually make. This is because we don't know how Howard and his producers split up his massive production costs per year. However, in 2015, it was reported that Sal Governale makes about $80,000 per year. However, it's likely closer to $100,000 by now. While he was originally hired to be a practical jokester, his duties on The Stern Show have evolved. And with expanded duties comes and larger paycheck... theoretically.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Sal Governale is only valued at $400,000. From one perspective, this makes sense. Despite once being a stoke broker, Sal became notorious for wasting away his finances. It's a source of major comedy on The Stern Show as well as a topic that gets Howard exceptionally irate. After all, he hates when his employees aren't responsible with their money.

But given the fact that Sal has worked for The Stern Show since 2004, there's no doubt that his net worth is actually closer to $1 million, if not a little more. While he has a wife and two kids to support, he has a house in New York state as well as a coveted job on the biggest radio show in North America.

How Did Sal Governale Get Hired On The Howard Stern Show?

Not unlike a Wack Packer, Sal Governale constantly phoned into The Stern SHow throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. Not only was he a super-fan, but he was exceptionally good at making fun of producer Gary "Ba Ba Booey" Dell'Abate. Because of this, he was even invited on the show in 1996.

But it wasn't until 2004 that he was offered a job. Actually, Sal had to compete for a gig on The Stern Show after staffer Stuttering John left the show. Howard, his co-hosts Robin Quivers, Artie Lange, and Fred Norris, brought in numerous Stern Show super fans and comedians to take part in "Win John's Job". Sal ended up coming in second place to his future best-friend, writing partner, and alleged lover, Richard Christy. However, both comedians ended up getting the job as they made such an impression.

Over the years, Sal has proven himself to be one of the most valuable employees on The Stern Show. While he may be a hard worker, he's most valuable for acting like an absolute idiot. In the earlier days of the show, Sal continuously got himself into trouble for doing things that were inappropriate even by The Stern Show's standards. Still, at every turn, he'd make Howard and the audience laugh. Especially when he'd relentlessly tease his boss, Gary.

Sal continues to be the most inappropriate member of the Stern Staff as well as the most controversial. While some of his opinions and verbal slip-ups would get him canceled in the real world, they're highlighted on The Stern Show. Not because Howard or his staff agree with Sal, but because they love to ridicule him for the ludicrous and offensive things that come out of his mouth. They also know that Sal never means any harm... he's just a buffoon. And Sal's the first to admit it. Not even he would want "traction" on a comment like that.

Is Sal Governale Still Married?

Very little is known about Sal's wife, Christine Governale. What fans do know is that she constantly had troubles with her husband. Throughout the early 2000s, Christine came on The Stern Show numerous times to voice her dissatisfaction and disgust with the father of her two sons. It turned out that the issues she voiced on-air ended up being an issue at home.

One of the most famous Sal Governale bit on the show had to do with his wife secretly speaking to her "emotional friend" (AKA "143"). Sal was legitimately worried that his wife was going to leave him. This caused Howard to intervene and bring on a marriage counselor to help the two of them repair their damaged relationship on-air.

But Sal and Christine's issues weren't just a gimmick for the radio show. They actually sought help outside the show and continue to work on their marriage.

It does appear that Sal and Christine are together in 2022 and likely won't end their relationship. They have too much history and a family together. However, that doesn't mean that there still aren't issues they have to tackle on a daily basis.
