Tom & Zawe Just Welcomed their First Baby In Secret

It’s been confirmed by numerous publications that Zawe has given birth. While few details are known about Tom and Zawe’s new baby (including the birth date and location), reports say the actors are loving parenthood so far.

“Tom and Zawe are loving being new parents and are filled with joy,” a source told Us Weekly . “They have been having the struggles of new parents and aren’t sleeping much but are thrilled.”

So far, the couple hasn’t responded to inquiries for comments. The sex and name of their baby is currently unknown.

Zawe’s Pregnancy Was Shrouded In Mystery From The Start

When Zawe first unveiled her pregnancy, it wasn’t clear if she was expecting with the Loki actor or not. She debuted her bump at the Mr. Malcolm’s List premiere in New York City in June, which Tom didn’t attend with her. Zawe’s bump was on full display in a tan, off-the-shoulder gown that highlighted her stomach.

Though the couple didn’t officially confirm paternity right away, it was clear that Zawe and Tom were expecting together, since they confirmed their engagement weeks earlier.

“ I’m very happy ,” Tom told Los Angeles Times when asked about their relationship status.

Up until then, engagement rumors had been following the couple for months. Eagle-eyed fans noticed a large ring on Zawe’s left hand during an appearance at the 2022 BAFTA Awards in March, with reports at the time saying Tom had popped the question that month.

Reports say the massive ring is likely around $150,000 with 5 carats. It’s an oval-cut diamond surrounded by smaller stones.

“The vintage flair of her ring offers a classic touch with plenty of character. There’s no doubt Tom took a lot of time to design such a stunning ring,” Mike Fried, CEO of The Diamond Pro, said of the ring, putting its value in the six digits.

Tom & Zawe Notoriously Keep Their Relationship Private

Tom and Zawe originally met while working on the 2019 play Betrayal in which they portrayed a married couple. A real-life romance blossomed between the two, and reports said they moved to Atlanta, Georgia after the play finished.

But the couple didn’t make their red carpet debut until the tony Awards in September 2021, establishing a precedent that the couple would be notoriously private about their relationship.

Tom has hinted his decision to keep his life away from the public eye was motivated by his past relationships, largely his high-profile relationship with singer Taylor Swift.

“ Everyone is entitled to a private life,” he said in 2017 months after his break-up with Taylor. “I love what I do and I dedicate myself with absolute commitment to making great art and great entertainment, and in my mind I don’t conflict the two.”

Tom added, “My work is in the public sphere and I have a private life. And those two things are separate.”

Despite keeping their personal life under wraps for the most part, Zawe did open up about her pregnancy to the media. Specifically, she discussed the pressures pregnancy puts on a career in Hollywood.

"You’re told, 'Don’t get pregnant' but also 'Don’t leave it too long' because then you’re going to be an old maid. I’ve been prehistoric in this industry since I was 25,” she explained. “The mixed messaging is rough and has to be addressed. It was just suddenly this self-permission comes over you that goes against all that messaging."

She explained the double-sided pressure has motivated her to remain silent on her personal life – so don’t expect a lot of updates or photos of her and Tom’s new baby.

"I used to talk about [having children] all the time in interviews – it was really unsuitable. I’ve got to learn [the art of discretion],” Zawe continued.

"I cannot put myself in the same privacy conversation as Adele,” she added. “But, I think it’s like any choice. You make it and then do it as much as you can."

Although Tom and Zawe have been engaged for nearly a year, there’s no word on when they plan on tying the knot. For now, the couple seem content to enjoy the transition to parenthood, but away from the public’s eye.
